FAQs About Frameless Glass Shower Doors

One of our main specialties is the installation of shower and bath tub enclosures. If you have questions on the installation or maintenance of glass enclosures, check out our Frequently Asked Questions for more information!

What is the primary difference between a frameless shower door and a framed shower door?
  • A frameless shower enclosure is made of 3/8" to 1/2" tempered and polished safety glass, which is strong and sturdy with a minimal use of metal to secure the panels in place instead of strengthen them.
  • A framed shower door is constructed of thinner less expensive glass 5/32" to 1/4". It uses metal to strengthen the perimeter of the enclosure.
What are the advantages of a frameless shower door over a framed door?
  • A frameless shower door eliminates most all metal framing thus avoiding corrosion that is associated with a framed shower door.
  • Frameless doors may open in and out depending on the design of the door verses a framed door, which only opens out.
  • A frameless door gives a more open and airy feeling to the area.
  • A frameless door will last three to four times longer than a framed door.
What decisions do I need to make when purchasing a frameless shower door?
  • Where do I want my door?
  • What side do I want my shower door hinges on?
  • How high do I want my shower enclosure to go?
  • What hardware finish will I be using?
  • What type of glass will I be using?
What types of care will the glass, frame and hardware require?

Glass Care
  • If your unit is treated with Diamon Fusion, Enclosures Unlimited suggests that you simply pour cool water along the top edge of the glass after each shower. Most o f the soapy residue will run off. A dry washcloth will remove the few drops of water that remain. This will allow the maximum time between cleaning without permanent staining. If your enclosure is not maintained routinely, or you have hard water, it may be necessary to use a wet body scrubber (similar to those used with liquid body soaps) to lightly scrub away any water spots or marks and remove excess film.
  • If your unit is not treated with Diamon Fusion, it is recommended that you clean after each use with a squeegee and dry with a towel. Non-abrasive spray cleaners may be used if needed for soap scum and hard water film should the enclosure not be maintained after each use.
Luxury Hardware
  • Clean brass with clear water and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Never use abrasive cleansers, strong general household cleansers, or brass polish formulations.
  • Only non-abrasive, non-caustic cleaners are recommended for cleaning anodized aluminum, as well as painted finishes
  • Although some cleaners are safe to use, wipe off immediately, the same cleaners can cause permanent damage if allowed to sit on metal finishes.
The following cleaning agents should be avoided:
  • Vinegar and vinegar based products
  • Abrasive or soft abrasive powders and liquids
  • Bleach or bleach-based cleansers
EXERCISE CAUTION: DO NOT LEAVE CLEANING AGENTS ON YOUR ENCLOSURE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
